WWF Superstars (May 20, 1995)

Original Airdate: May 20, 1995 (taped April 25)

From Danbury, Connecticut; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix

The Smoking Gunns v Bob Cook and Mike Khoury: Vince seems legitimately annoyed as Dok talks about how a little kid won the house giveaway at the first In Your House. And then the kid promptly sold it. I tracked down the address based on the street sign images they showed during the build up, and it looks like a pretty simple  house, but as of today, it’s worth about $500,000. That’s the market today. Gunns with a combo at 3:09. This felt really long. DUD

Jean-Pierre LaFitte v John Crystal: LaFitte is a good worker, but this gimmick is a loser, and his ceiling was always going to be lower midcard with it. Why waste good wrestlers with bad gimmicks? The whole point of a gimmick, at least in my opinion, is to help a wrestler who can’t get over without one. And I don’t mean a ‘gimmick’ like Razor Ramon or Diesel is a gimmick, but this pirate, plumber, race car driver type gimmick. LaFitte with a flying somersault senton splash at 3:23. ½*

Stephanie Wiand is in the studio for the In Your House Report

Bodydonnas vignette

Man Mountain Rock v Bill Payne: Once again, Rock is paired with Payne, which has to be a rib. Rock with a fujiwara armbar at 2:15. I’d rather listen to him play the guitar, frankly. DUD

Shawn Michaels music video

Mantaur v Gary Scott: We get a fan doing the ring announcing for this one, and Mantaur doesn’t even get an entrance. Really showing us where he stacks up. And speaking of which, he gives Scott quite a lot of offense here. Mantaur with a slam at 1:50, which itself was actually a counter to a flying bodypress from the jobber. ¼*

Hall of Fame ad. Vince suggests that whoever wins this year's King of the Ring tournament is likely a future hall of famer. I’m thinking… no

Backstage, Jacob Blu is ready for Razor Ramon

King of the Ring Tournament Qualifying Match: Razor Ramon v Jacob Blu: Blu dominates him early on, and he rattles the ring with a corner whip. Another one rebounds Razor into a big boot, and Blu lands a second one as Razor recovers. A third, but Ramon ducks, and throws a series of right hands. Ramon with a corner whip to set up a corner clothesline, and Jacob bails. Razor wisely doesn’t chase, but Blu tosses him over the top, and Ramon hustles back in to avoid interference from Eli and Uncle Zeb. Jacob continues to dominate, and a facebuster gets him two. Blu with an Oklahoma stampede to trap Razor in a tree of woe, but a clothesline misses, and Ramon lands a bodypress for two. Blu cuts him off with a clothesline for two, and he dumps Razor back to the outside, but the referee prevents interference. Inside, Blu covers for two, and delivers another of those big boots. Blu with a snapmare into a chinlock, but Ramon escapes. Blu tries an avalanche, but hits Razor’s boot, and the Bad Guy dives with a 2nd rope bulldog. Cue a cheap shot from Eli, so Savio Vega runs out, and takes both Eli and Zeb out. That’s enough to distract Jacob, and Razor schoolboys at 8:50. That must have been really confusing for the live crowd, considering In Your House hadn’t happened yet when this was taped. ¾*

Wiand is back with a second In Your House Report

BUExperience: This episode felt like it had more highlights from RAW than original content. And this is only week one of this taping cycle!
