WWF Superstars (June 24, 1995)

Original Airdate: June 24, 1995 (taped June 6)

From Wheeling, West Virginia; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix

Shawn Michaels v Brooklyn Brawler: I get, booking wise, why Shawn didn’t get the King of the Ring win (he’s a babyface now, and they need a heel for Diesel to work with), but he was the most over guy in the promotion at this point, and it definitely felt like a letdown when he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. And, speaking of the tournament, Kama split screens in to hype their match. Fun finish here, as Michaels hits the superkick on the outside, and teases getting himself counted out, before sliding back in at nine at 3:35. Shawn was having a ball here, and those kinds of performances are the best kind. ½*

Men on a Mission v Jerry Flynn and Mike McReynold: Hendrix is like every negative Southern stereotype in one package. Much like Michael Hayes, come to think of it! MOM at 2:47. I’m surprised they’re still doing the tag matches here on King of the Ring weekend. Has he had any singles matches at all since the qualifier at In Your House? DUD

Todd Pettengill is in the studio for the King of the Ring Report.

Undertaker v Barry Horowitz: Mabel split screens in, and at least his little promo here is decent. Better than him doing tag squashes with Mo on the eve of the biggest push of his life. Undertaker with the tombstone at 1:26. Undertaker was really great at delivering very believable tombstones, where the opponent's head looks like it’s really connecting, but likely super safe. Afterwards, Mabel comes out to shout at Undertaker from the aisle, and again, better than tag squashes, so I appreciate the effort. DUD

Bob Backlund thinks Man Mountain Rock needs to be stopped. I mean, I agree. Maybe not for the same batshit reasons as Backlund, but ends and means, and all that

Skip v John Crystal: We get a fan doing the ring announcing, which turns into a battle with Sunny, who wants to introduce Skip herself. I wouldn’t argue with her, dude, she can be dangerous. Skip with a superplex at 1:29. Quick and easy. DUD

Lengthy review of the Diesel/Bam Bam Bigelow versus Million Dollar Corporation feud

Bam Bam Bigelow v Mantaur: Mantaur attacks before the bell, and a cross corner whip allows him a clothesline on the rebound. Mantaur with another clothesline as Bam Bam gets to his feet, and a bodyslam sets up an elbowdrop, but Bigelow rolls out of the way. Bam Bam with a clothesline and a dropkick, and a bodyslam gets him two. Bigelow tries an armbar, but Mantaur slugs free, so Bam Bam nails him with a pair of headbutts. Mantaur responds with a chincrusher and a clothesline for two, and a straddling ropechoke follows. Mantaur gets a chinlock on, but Bigelow escapes. He tries a slam, but Mantaur blocks, and delivers a vertical suplex. Mantaur with a corner splash, and a cross corner whip flips Bigelow over the buckles, but Mantaur misses the follow up. That allows Bam Bam to get to the top, and a flying headbutt drop finishes at 5:13. This was a pretty solid effort, and the crowd was buying Bam Bam as a babyface here. *

Todd is back with another King of the Ring Report

The  WWF blimp is flying around

Hunter Hearst Helmsley v Mike Khoury: No one really has time to discuss the match, they’re too busy making foot related jokes about Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler. The pedigree puts it away at 2:28. Like a tree in the woods with no one around. DUD

Jerry Lawler is in his ‘dungeon of torture,’ which appears to be at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not

King of the Ring ad

BUExperience: Not much as far as a go-home show for King of the Ring, but it was okay.
