WWF Monday Night RAW (April 11, 1994)

Original Airdate: April 11, 1994

From Utica, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Randy Savage.

Opening Match: Diesel v Virgil: On the way down the aisle, Virgil tries charging kids $20 a pop for high-fives, but no takers. Diesel shoves him into the corner for some abuse right away, but a cross corner charge misses, and Virgil targets the arm. Flying axehandle to the shoulder, and he tries an armbar, but Diesel punches him, and hits a sidewalk slam. Maybe try for the knees next time, genius. Short-clothesline, and Diesel slaps on a bearhug. Virgil slugs free, but Diesel really, really wants a hug, and goes back to it. Guy needs Dr. Melfi, stat. Diesel throws a bunch of forearms to the back to set up a third bearhug, as Shawn Michaels tries to convince the timekeeper to ring the bell. Virgil escapes and hits a series of forearms for two, but Diesel blocks a rollup, and creams him with a big boot before finishing with the Jackknife at 5:20. All bearhug here. Diesel would win the Intercontinental Title two days later (though it wouldn't air until the end of April), and it was straight to the top after that. ¼*

Vince and Randy hype the Voteline to determine who will challenge The Quebecers for the tag titles, tonight

Jerry Lawler comes down to host The King's Court, with Lex Luger. Notable moment on the way to the ring, as D-Lo Brown plays one of the jobbers tasked with carrying Lawler's throne to the ring... who promptly drop him right on his face. Lawler's reaction to it all is predictably hilarious, too. Anyway, Luger joins him to discuss Mr. Perfect, though we never got the blowoff there. Luger reminds me so much of John Cena, it's not even funny

Thurman Sparky Plugg v Barry Horowitz: Plugg works a side-headlock to start, and hits a bodyslam. Armdrag into an armbar, but Horowitz powers into the ropes to break - and slaps him across the face as a taunt. Barry hides on the apron, but Plugg brings him in hardway with a slingshot, and adds a dropkick before going back to the trusty armbar. Horowitz uses an inverted DDT to escape, and shoves Plugg into the corner for a bootchoke. Sparky quickly comes back with a backdrop, however, and a bodyslam sets up a flying kneedrop to finish at 3:06. Basic squash. ¼*

Backstage, the votes are being hand counted, and when we come back from commercial, The Quebecers will find out who they must defend against

WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Quebecers v Men on a Mission: Vince notes that Men on a Mission have actually won the tag titles before, acknowledging the change with the Quebecers in England a couple of weeks before this, where Mabel botched a splash, and accidentally won the titles by being too fat. Well, Vince doesn't detail all that (unfortunately), but they are acknowledging the change on TV. Brawl to start, and the challengers clean house before settling on Jacques and Mo. Mo takes a cheap shot from Pierre in short order, and Pierre tags in to beat him all official-like, but gets crotched on the top rope. Tag to Mabel for a legdrop, but an avalanche misses, and Pierre tags out. Jacques unloads a series of kicks to the knee to try and take the big guy down, but no good. Pierre tries a series of clotheslines, but Mabel counters one with a scrapbuster, and tags. MoM hit a double-team suplex, but Mo runs into another cheap shot, and the champs cut the ring in half with their usual tandem stuff. Mo manages to evade Pierre long enough after a double-knockout spot to reach Mabel, but the referee misses it. Quebecers try another double-team, but it backfires, and now Mabel gets the real tag! He's a house of arson, but he misses a splash on Jacques (thank God - we don't need another accidental title change), and Pierre clobbers him with a flying shoulderblock, and covers. Unfortunately, the referee is being a dick about Jacques still being in the ring and won't count, and as he goes to deal with him, Mo rolls Mabel on top for two - in a cute spot. Mabel avalanches Pierre and Mo cradles him for two, but now Jacques shoves him into a reversal for two. Four-way brawl breaks out, and Mabel wastes time with Johnny Polo on the floor, allowing The Quebecers to finish Mo with the Tower of Quebec at 9:30. Some of the usual fun double-team stuff from The Quebecers during the heat segment, and a few nice sequences towards the end, but Men on a Mission were just total shit in the ring for the most part. *

We take a look at footage of Doink, Dink, and The Bushwhackers at the annual White House Easter Egg Hunt. Kind of ironic, given McMahon’s constant ragging on Clinton through his commentary. Also, the fact that he was awaiting federal trial on drug charges

IRS reminds everyone that there’s only four days left to file their taxes, and that includes Tatanka – who owes for that ceremonial headdress he got

BUExperience: Totally forgettable episode this week, unless you really want to see a pre-fame D-Lo Brown, I guess?
