WWF Monday Night RAW (April 18, 1994)

Original Airdate: April 18, 1994 (Taped April 11)

From Utica, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Randy Savage.

Opening Match: Bret Hart v Kwang: Kwang attacks as Bret climbs into the ring after giving away the shades, and hits a spinkick early. He beats Hart into the corner, but a charge misses, and Bret armdrags him into an armbar. Criss cross goes Kwang's way when he tosses the champ out of the ring, and he follows for a shot into the apron, but Hart ducks a superkick against the post. Inside, Kwang retains control with a cross corner spinheel, and snapmares him for two. Nervehold,  but Hart wins another criss cross with a bodypress for two, so Kwang chops him. Back to the nervehold, as Owen Hart calls in to gloat about beating Bret at WrestleMania. Bret escapes, and dodges a spinheel kick, then hits a clothesline for two. Inside cradle gets two, and a backbreaker sets up the 2nd rope pointed elbowdrop for two. Kwang makes one last effort at a comeback, but Hart shrugs him off with the Russian legsweep, and finishes with the Sharpshooter at 7:30 - to a big pop. Nothing special, but it was exactly what it needed to be. *

Hot RAW Girl Sign of the Week: I Like Sushi 'Cause It's RAW

Jeff Jarrett v PJ Walker: Vince and Randy pass time talking about Roseanne and Tom Arnold, and McMahon assures us that we'll 'continue to follow that story.' Wow, didn't realize I'd flipped over to E! News. Thank God I have Vince and Randy to keep me up to date on all the latest pop culture trends. Jarrett controls with a backelbow, and a bodyslam sets up an elbowdrop. Abdominal stretch, as McMahon moves on to doing his usual weekly bit on Clinton. Walker counters a backbreaker with a cradle for two, but Jeff quickly regroups with a slingshot suplex, and a 2nd rope fistdrop. Jumping DDT finishes at 3:53. DUD

Backstage, Lou Albano wants Jack Tunney's decision: will The Headshrinkers get a tag title shot, or not? I'd just settle for them deciding if they're heels or not, but whatever

The Steiner Brothers v Barry Hardy and Mike Khoury: Scott Steiner starts with Khoury, and dominates with power stuff. Dragon suplex leaves Mike dead, so he tags Hardy. Tag to Rick Steiner to hit his inverted powerslam into the corner, and Scott works a tree of woe. Meanwhile, McMahon continues to take shots at Clinton. I swear, the guy's obsessed! Rick with a belly-to-belly superplex for Hardy, and a reverse chinlock. Scott with a Samoan superdrop (which looked a hundred times better/safer than when he'd do it in the Big Poppa Pump days), then he forces a tag to Khoury for a double-underhook powerbomb. Screwdriver finishes at 5:11. The Steiner's were pretty much dunzo with the promotion at this point, and they did not look pleasant out there. ¼*

Duke 'The Dumpster' Droese vignette. Hmm, I always thought he came around in 1995, for some reason

Jerry Lawler comes out to host The King's Court, with guest Alundra Blayze. And since Luna Vachon is the only other woman on the roster, naturally, they talk about her. That was what I always hated about the Women's 'Division' in the 90s, as there was only two or three women max in the entire promotion at any given time. Say what you will about the skills of the women today, but at least there's no shortage of vaginas

Earthquake v Mike Bell: Bell wants a test-of-strength, but he's too short, so Mike suggests standing on the middle rope. 'Quake allows it, and then slams him off, so Bell bails. Earthquake stupidly gives chase, and gets clobbered on the way back in, but quickly shrugs him off with a dropkick. Another one knocks Bell right out of the ring, and Earthquake pulls him back in for a belly-to-belly suplex. Bodyslam and a legdrop follow, and a powerslam sets up the Earthquake-splash at 3:54. ¼*

On Superstars over the weekend, IRS came down during Tatanka's match with Kwang, and rips up Tatanka's prized ceremonial headdress. Given that IRS made clear that he'd be monitoring Tatanka's returns like a hawk well in advance, I'd say he was pretty bold not to pay, actually

IRS v Major Yates: IRS controls with a cross corner whip, and he dumps Yates as the crowd taunts him with an 'Irwin' chant. Inside, IRS with a snapmare into an elbowdrop, and he slaps on a rope-assisted abdominal stretch. Double-underhook suplex leads to a chinlock, but Yates counters a backdrop with a sunset flip for two. IRS responds with a vertical suplex, and slaps on an STF to finish at 3:32. DUD

BUExperience: This one is notable for me, personally, as my parents let me stay up and watch RAW for the first time (well, only the Bret match, but still), and it will always hold a special place in my heart for that reason. Everyone else, feel free to pass.
