WWF Superstars (February 18, 1995)

Original Airdate: February 18, 1995 (taped January 24)

From West Palm Beach, Florida; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler

Lawrence Taylor’s lawyer is threatening to sue both Bam Bam Bigelow and the WWF if they don’t stop with the challenges to LT for a match. All this bullshit is making Taylor come off like a wimp. And kind of a heel, too

Hakushi v Buck Quartermaine: Vince begs off from Lawrence Taylor’s attorneys. They won’t bother him any longer, so please don’t sue them, okay? Hakushi with a slingshot splash at 2:33. Hakushi was trying every week, give him that. ¼*

Live Event News is Stephanie Wiand chatting with WWF Intercontinental Champion Jeff Jarrett ahead of his WWF Title shot against Diesel this Monday on RAW

WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Smoking Gunns v The New Headshrinkers: Bart Gunn and Sionne start, and Bart immediately schoolboys for two. He takes Sionne to the mat for a hammerlock, but a hiptoss gets blocked, and Sionne levels him with a short-clothesline. Sionne uses a bodyslam to set up a flying somersault senton splash, but Bart dodges. That allows Bart to hustle to the top with a missile dropkick for two, and he passes to Billy Gunn. Sionne shrugs him off with a bodyslam to allow a tag to Fatu, and Fatu throws a backelbow, but charges into an overhead armdrag. Billy with a pair of clotheslines for two, and a flying axehandle follows, but Fatu no-sells. Fatu with a clothesline for two, but a second one misses, and Bart catches a hot tag - nailing Fatu with a clothesline on his way in. And then immediately getting hit with a clothesline from the illegal Sionne! I really dug the contest between everyone to see who could oversell a clothesline better. The challengers work Bart over, as the Blu Brothers show up to watch from the aisle. Billy catches a bling tag and hits Sionne with a flying clothesline, followed by mounted punches. A pair of legdrops get two, and it’s back to Bart for a tandem Russian legsweep for two. Bart with a bodyslam to set up a flying elbowdrop for two, and back to Billy for a flying elbowdrop of his own for another two. A combo gets another two, as Sionne is getting quite a run here. The Gunns with a tandem vertical suplex, and Billy dives with a flying bulldog for two. Anyone other than Sionne would have probably ended up with a broken neck there. Billy tries a bodypress, but Sionne catches him in a tombstone, and how did that one not end in a broken neck? Let’s hope that’s all, it’s not a clothesline contest, guys. There are rules. Tag to Fatu, so Bart comes in illegally, and Roseanne Barr the door. Fatu superkicks Billy, but the Blu Brothers pull him out at two, and everyone brawls on the outside for a double countout at 11:14. Hell of a match here, before the bullshit finish. And I kind of expected a bullshit finish, but I totally didn’t expect such a good match before it. The New Headshrinkers were especially motivated during this period, it’s too bad they didn’t last longer. ***

Stan Lane brings the WWF Magazine editor out, along with a fan who won a contest, to present the Award of the People to Bret Hart. Bret’s got his goofy new jacket here, the one with his name on it in massive letters. That one’s terrible. I always found it funny how they’d give Bret some bullshit award whenever they took the belt off of him

Razor Ramon v Bill Payne: We get a fan doing the ring announcing, and the guy looks like he could be Ramon’s little brother. Razor gives the ring attendant an extra warning this week, since his chains are ‘the only gold he has left.’ The Razor’s Edge finishes at 2:38. DUD

Diesel music video. Complete with Jackie Gleason quotes

Shawn Michaels promises to win the WWF Title from Diesel at WrestleMania. Not if Jeff Jarrett gets there first

Lane brings Davey Boy Smith out to whine about how he lost the Royal Rumble match because Shawn Michaels ‘pushed him out from behind.’ Yeah, that’s kind of how battle royals work. And speaking of which, next week, we will see a battle royal, and Davey promises revenge on Shawn in that match. Yeah, well, Michaels is still going to WrestleMania win, lose, or draw, so do whatever makes you happy, I guess

Kwang v Rick Santana: Is he not Savio Vega yet? Gosh. Meanwhile, the announcers discuss the battle royal for next week, and Vince is thrilled because he gets to pick ‘favorites’ all over again! King Kong Bundy! Mo from Men on a Mission! It’s like a second Christmas for him! Kwang with a spinheel kick at 1:46. DUD

Live Event News is another look at the battle royal for next week, which has ‘everyone buzzing.’ Pretty sure that’s just Vince

New Generation ad. It’s literally killing people!

Bret Hart is still really excited about the Magazine award, but he doesn’t appreciate Lawler calling him a racist every week. He didn’t deny anything, though

BUExperience: The feature match was really good this week, but the rest of this episode felt like it was cobbled together from random clips. It didn’t have a good flow to it at all.
