Original Airdate: August 4, 1989 (taped July 31)
From New Orleans, Louisiana; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Jim Cornette
Eddie Gilbert v Bounty Hunter: Rick Steiner shows up at ringside to cheer Eddie on/flirt with Missy Hyatt. Eddie with a hotshot at 8:02. DUD
Gordon Solie is in the studio with Wrestling News Network, and he reveals that Ricky Steamboat has left the promotion. He also reveals that Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard have won the WWF Tag Team title, right after noting that they left the NWA after getting beat
Scott Steiner v Rip Morgan: Posturing to start, and Scott gets control. He uses a snapmare into a chinlock, but a 2nd rope bodypress misses, and Morgan puts the boots to him. Scott fights back with a few cradles for a couple of two counts, but Morgan throws a clothesline for two, and goes to a chinlock. To the outside, Scott eats the post, but he manages a slingshot sunset flip for two on the way back in, before Morgan puts him in another chinlock. Scott slugs free, so Morgan hits him with a rotating spinebuster for two, and puts on an abdominal stretch. Scott escapes, and they spill to the outside, where Steiner wins a brawl. Inside, Scott delivers a powerslam for two, but gets reversed into the corner, and Morgan backdrops him on the rebound. Headlock, but Scott forces a criss cross, and hits a double-underhook rana at 8:56. That was weird, like he was going for a standard rana, but didn’t get up high enough, and just kind of hooked him in the armpits instead. ¾*
Fan-Scan finds some guy in the crowd that wants to fight Terry Funk. Yeah, that seems like a well informed decision
Terry Funk hosts Funk’s Grill, with guest Teddy Long and Norman the Lunatic. Funk thinks Norman reminds him of ‘John Belushi on a two week binge.’ Jesus
Terry Funk and Terry Gordy v Sting and Steve Williams: Funk and Sting start, and a criss cross ends in Sting clotheslining him over the top. Funk dusts himself off, but another exchange with Sting results in Terry getting dropkicked over the top. That draws some crazy fan over, and he cracks up the entire building with a goofy dance to mock the heels. Tag to Terry, and Gordy manages to hammer Sting on the ropes. He dumps Sting to the outside to allow Funk to double team, but Sting is too quick for them, and gets back to the high ground before they can touch him. Tag to Williams, and he knocks both heels around, until the dust settles on Funk in with him. The heels manage to outsmart Steve, however, and Williams gets beat up on the outside. Inside, they hit a spike piledriver for two, and go to work, cutting the ring in half. It’s so weird seeing Steve Williams take a heat segment. A double down with Funk allow the tag to Sting, and Terry takes a piledriver for two. Bodypress, but Funk hits the deck, and Sting wipes out in the ropes. The loud groan from the crowd there was epic. Funk works Sting over, but gets reversed into the corner, so Gary Hart comes in for the DQ at 11:18. Phenomenal crowd, but not the best match. *
Lex Luger is named as Wrestler of the Week
