Original Airdate: July 21, 1989 (taped July 16)
From Fort Worth, Texas; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Jim Cornette
Sid Vicious v Davey Rich: We’re not pretending this is going to be competitive, right? Sid with the powerbomb at 6:26. That runtime is perplexing. I mean, this is the same group that knew how to promote the Road Warriors, and they’re giving us six minute Sid squashes? DUD
Gordon Solie is in the studio with Wrestling News Network, which is just Great American Bahs hype
Six-Man Tag Team Match: Tommy Rich, Brian Pillman, and Scott Hall v Iron Sheik, Bill Irwin, and TJ Meadows: I still have a tough time wrapping my mind around Hall in this Tom Selleck gimmick. I also can’t fathom how Sheik went from this to headlining SummerSlam the next year. Rich hits Meadows with a Thesz press for the pin at 10:16. Good energy here, for what it was. ½*
Terry Funk hosts Funk’s Grill, with guests The Fabulous Freebirds, who are balls of class, as always
Dick Murdoch v Terry Gordy: This one is from Atlanta Georgia on July 2. They slug it out early, leaving both guys loopy, and left to regroup in opposing corners. They keep punching and punching each other, until Gordy tries a piledriver, but Dick backdrops him to block. Dick with an backelbow, so Michael Hayes distracts the referee, and Jimmy Garvin hits Dick. That allows Gordy to cover at 6:18. Too long for what they brought to the table. DUD
Brian Pillman is named Wrestler of the Week
BUExperience: The promotion had good energy at this point, even if this show wasn’t especially interesting.
