WWF Coliseum Video Collection: Funniest Moments (1991)
Coliseum Video compilation. The front cover of the tape features the Bushwhackers, so you know it's all good here
Sean Mooney hosts from the control center. He promises us a tape full of 'fat fool' and 'whackers whacking.' Take MY money
Ball and Chain Match: Big Boss Man v Bobby Heenan: TV taping dark match from Chattanooga Tennessee on January 8 1991. Heenan does a great bit where he tries to apologize before the match, but Boss Man is having none of it, of course. Poor Bobby is still begging even after the bell sounds, making up a story about how Boss Man's mom is on the phone in the back for him right now, and Boss Man is on the verge of buying it. But of course, he doesn't, so Heenan tries hitting him with the microphone, but that backfires. Boss Man beats him up a bit, and he scores the pin with one foot across Bobby's throat at 2:38. This wasn't really a 'match' (90% of it was Heenan cutting a promo), but it was entertaining nonetheless. More so than a proper match would have been. So now Heenan is forced to wear a ball and chain, but WWF Intercontinental Champion Mr. Perfect makes the save. DUD
We get clips of the Gobbledy Gooker coming out to dance with various ring announcers at TV tapings. And when I say 'clips,' I mean complete segments (with full entrances and exits) of Gooker coming out to do his thing. Boy, they must have really been stretching for content to fill this tape. I honestly didn't realize the original character ever appeared outside of Survivor Series, but there you go
Rhythm & Blues v The Bushwhackers: From an MSG house show on April 30 1990 in New York City. The Bushwhackers clean house to start, and the dust settles on Honky Tonk Man with Luke. Luke works a wristlock, and it's over to Butch to keep on the arm. Honky bails for some stalling, and it's over to Greg Valentine once he gets back inside. Greg gets control, but Luke starts biting his ass to fight him off, and Honky eats the battering ram. The Bushwhackers go back to work on Greg, but they run into trouble in the heel corner, and R&B cut the ring in half on Luke. A miscommunication spot allows the tag to Butch, and Roseanne Barr the door! Honky grabs a chair, but he gets chased up the aisle, and the Bushwhackers are counted out at 12:20. Yeah, I'm sure this had the Garden crowd in stitches. At least the match between these two teams on Mega Matches was from a TV taping, and out and done in four minutes. The house show deals from this era were just brutal. DUD
Blow Away infomercial! Okay, finally something actually funny. I'm still stunned that they actually had the sense of humor to go for this sort of thing in the early 90s. It seems like something that would have been right at home on SNL during the Sandler era
Buddy Rose v Mario Mancini: From Prime Time Wrestling on December 10 1990 (taped November 19) in Rochester New York. Yes, a literal TV squash is one of the three matches that actually made this compilation tape. This has to be the high point of Mancini's career. Rose does a funny bit before the match where he brings his own scale, and claims to be much lighter than announced. And then he takes his time with the robe, like he's Rick Rude, as the crowd chants 'fat boy' at him. And commentator Lord Alfred Hayes calls him that as well! Rose with a saito backbreaker at 4:57. Rose was great in this role. The wrestling was not, though. DUD
We get highlights of Rick Rude attacking Roddy Piper on the set of the Brother Love show, which leads to another segment where Roddy takes over the Brother Love set, complete with putting Love in a diaper and tying him up like he's in a Warrior comic. This was more disturbing than funny
In a bit I'm pretty sure is borrowed from a different Coliseum tape, Gene Okerlund finds the Bushwhackers in an outhouse somewhere in the Australian outback, where they take him under their wing and turn him into 'one of them.' The Bushwhackers are rarely funny. This was not one of those rare instances
More with Brother Love, as he brings Ultimate Warrior out as his guest during the build to WrestleMania VII, but Warrior destroys the set, and beats the crap out of him. I think this was actually the segment that wrote the Love character off for a few years. It wasn't remotely funny, however. Like, this big, hulked up former world champion beating on a defenseless interviewer for five minutes while the announcers laugh like it's the funniest thing they've ever seen is honestly kind of unnerving
Mooney signs off
BUExperience: The Buddy Rose stuff is pretty funny, but let's not kid ourselves, this has to be the worst Coliseum release ever, right?
Not a good addition to your Coliseum collection.
