WWF Monday Night RAW (May 10, 1993)
Original Airdate: May 10, 1993
From New York, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon, Bobby Heenan, and Randy Savage.
Awesome opening segment, as we go back to earlier in the day, when Lord Alfred Hayes caught up with Shawn Michaels outside of the arena, and Mr. Perfect attacked him in the street. They have a wild brawl in front of the fans, with Shawn taking his famous bump onto the hood of a car. This was not only a great, memorable segment, but actually a rib on Howard Finkel, who had just bought the car Shawn bumped onto.
Opening King of the Ring Qualifying Match: Bam Bam Bigelow v Typhoon: Power-stalemate to start, won by Typhoon with a rather casual bodyslam. He works the wrist, but Bigelow powers into a bodyslam of his won - only to miss a falling headbutt. Typhoon goes back to the wristlock, so Bam Bam side suplexes him - which Typhoon promptly no-sells, and knocks the Bammer to the outside. He tries to follow, but ends up getting rammed into the post, and nearly counted out. Inside, Bigelow slaps on a chinlock, but Typhoon muscles out - only to miss an avalanche, and take a Samoan drop. Bigelow quickly finishes him from there with the flying headbutt at 7:00. Typhoon was strictly JTTS at this point, but they did their best to make him look like a threat here, and this was a decent super-heavyweight match. ¾*

Hot RAW Girl Sign of the Week: Deep Down Everyone is RAW
Yokozuna v PJ Walker: Walker looks like he borrowed Marty Jannetty's tights from 1990 here - though maybe he just got them in trade for a handful of blow and a roll of toilet paper. I'll check History of the WWE, and get back to you. Yoko doesn't care (or already knows...), and clobbers him with chops right away. Belly-to-belly suplex and a legdrop leave Walker a pile of goo, but Yoko isn't satisfied, and gives him an avalanche before finishing with the Banzi Drop at 2:12. Quick and painful. ¼*
King of the Ring Report
Mr. Perfect v Mike Sharpe: Perfect tries a headlock to start, but gets whipped into the ropes, and wins a criss cross by dropkicking Mike out to the floor. He brings him back in with a slingshot, and unloads a series of turnbuckle smashes. Snapmare sets up the somersault necksnap, so Sharpe rakes the eyes, and chops him. Perfect returns fire with a well placed kick to the nuts, followed by a kneelift, and a somersault cradle for two. Sleeper, as Heenan decides to change channels on his monitor to find something other than Perfect to watch - and comes across Mark Wahlberg's underwear ads, back when that was what he was actually best known for. Sharpe breaks the hold in the corner, but telegraphs a backdrop, and the Perfect-Plex finishes him at 4:40. Fun and energetic. ¾*
Mr. Hughes v Cannonball Kid: After last weeks disaster, Kid changes his name - though he's still got the old Lightning Kid tights from his Indy days. Hughes wrecks him with a well executed powerslam right away, and follows with a chokeslam. Kid sells a cross corner whip like he's been shot, and Hughes gives him a big boot, followed by a scrapbuster at 2:19. Well booked, as Kid was doing a job tour to set up the Ramon angle, and Hughes was a newcomer, so both guys benefit. ¼*
WWF Intercontinental Title Lumberjack Match: Shawn Michaels v Jim Duggan: Duggan makes friends right away, and gets into a fight with Yokozuna on the floor, but it doesn't matter - looks like Shawn is on crutches, and can't wrestle, so too bad. Lumberjack Mr. Perfect is wise to him though, and helps him find his smile - Bobby Heenan hilariously shouting about a 'miracle!' Inside, Duggan destroys him with slams and an elbowdrop for two, then hits a vertical suplex as the crowd turns a 'USA!' chant into 'Shawn is Gay.' Heh. Michaels with a Flair flip in the corner, and a clothesline leaves Michaels for dead. He tries to bail, but the lumberjacks don't even get a chance to stop him before Duggan drags him back in for a headvise. Bearhug next, but Shawn won't give, so Duggan slams him for two. Michaels tries an eye rake, but Duggan decks him, and grabs a front-facelock. Into the corner, Duggan unloads a ten-punch count, and Michaels ends up tied up in the ropes for some stomps. Duggan frees him for a toss over the top, and lumberjack Mr. Perfect is quick to make sure the heel lumberjacks don't help Shawn in any way. Inside, Duggan keeps hammering, but he misses a kneedrop, and Shawn pulls off his cowboy boot (he's wrestling in street clothes) to knock the challenger to the floor for some lumberjack abuse. Duggan blocks a backdrop, but a charge into the corner doesn't go his way, and Shawn hooks the leg for two. Chinlock, but Duggan clotheslines him, and backdrops him into the lights. Another blind charge doesn't go his way, but he counters a 2nd rope bodypress with a bodyslam for two, and hooks a chinlock. 3-Point Stance knocks Shawn out to the floor, but the lumberjacks bring him right back in this time, so lumberjack Bam Bam Bigelow runs interference from the apron. That allows Shawn to hit a high knee to knock Hacksaw out to the floor, and lumberjack Yokozuna helps him in - only he adds a legdrop first. That allows Shawn to make a one foot cover, but Mr. Perfect runs in, and it's a disqualification at 17:20. Afterwards, all the lumberjacks brawl, until Duggan cleans house with the 2x4. Too long for what they were going for, and way too slow with all of the restholds, but this junk was actually fairly well remembered - I remember seeing it on multiple VHS tapes back in the 90s. DUD
BUExperience: Fun show this week. Yeah, I didn’t really like the main event, but it is fairly well remembered, and I’m still a sucker for that wild opening segment. Plus, hard work from everyone on the card (even the jobbers) makes this a good episode.
