WWF Monday Night RAW (September 20, 1993)

Original Airdate: September 20, 1993 (Taped September 13)

From New York, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon, Randy Savage, and Bobby Heenan.

Opening Match: Pierre v Scott Steiner: If Steiner wins, he and Rick get a title rematch against The Quebecers. They have Scott in different tights to try and disguise that this is taped, but he's still sweating profusely from the earlier match. Well, maybe he was just warming up real hard! Slugfest goes Scott's way, and he catches Pierre with an inverted atomic drop to set up a flying clothesline. Scott casually dumps Pierre over the top, then rolls him back in with a piledriver for two. See, because all of those moves were illegal last week, under Province of Quebec rules. Scott bridges into an Indian deathlock, but Pierre doesn't quit, so Scott overhead superplexes him. Pierre rolls out to the floor to regroup with new manager Johnny Polo, but Scott breaks it up, and chases them to the back. Pierre returns with Jacques in tow to jump Scott, so Rick Steiner shows up to even the odds as Pierre DDTs his brother. Diving headbutt followed by a clothesline for two, so Scott sunset flips him, but the referee is caught up with Polo on the apron. Pierre with a chinlock, and Jacques runs interference while he uses the ropes, and he blasts Steiner with a kneelift when he tries powering out. Bodyslam and a pump-splash get two, and Pierre grabs another chinlock. Scott powers into the corner to break, but he can't capitalize, and Pierre slams him again to set up a legdrop off the middle rope for two. Backdrop, but Scott counters into a backslide for two, and a sloppy inside cradle gets two, so Pierre rakes the eyes. Back to the chinlock to wear Scott down, but another pump-splash misses, and Steiner backdrops him. Clothesline and a double-underhook powerbomb him, and the Frankensteiner finishes at 14:00 to earn the Steiner's a rematch. A little too much chinlocking from Pierre, but generally well paced and worked. * ¼

Cute RAW Girl Sign of the Week: RAW RAW RAW! Sock 'Em in the Jaw!

Bam Bam Bigelow v Laverne McGill: Bam Bam catches him with a dropkick right away, but a second try misses, and McGill fires off two of his own. Bigelow actually Flair flips in the corner, but McGill's third try at a dropkick misses, as the injured Crush calls in to discuss his upcoming return with the announcers. Well, the announcers except for Randy Savage, who Crush promptly ignores and hangs up on. Meanwhile, Bigelow hits a hanging vertical suplex, and he chinlocks the jobber as Heenan rubs in the hang up heard 'round the world in Savage's face. McGill tries a sunset flip, but Bam Bam buttsplashes him, hits an awkward looking vertical suplex, and senton splashes him at 5:20. Really dull match, but the Crush stuff on commentary kept it from being a total waste. ¼*

We take a look at last week, when Doink threw a bucket of water on Bobby Heenan, and back at the commentary table, now Heenan is complaining of having caught a cold, complete with thermometer. Vince's reaction to it all is just brilliant, and hilarious

Vince McMahon brings Bret Hart out for an in-ring interview, to discuss his feud with Jerry Lawler, and the match at SummerSlam. Not much notable, basically just Bret saying he's far from finished with Lawler

Mr. Perfect v Mike Bell: Bell tries to outwrestle Perfect in the early going, but gets smacked, and chopped into the corner. Dropkick knocks Bell out to the floor for more chops against the ringpost, as Vince accidentally starts calling Bell 'Diesel.' Back in, Perfect hits the somersault necksnap, and a standing dropkick sets up the Perfect-Plex at 3:49. Just going through the motions here. DUD

Ludvig Borga vignette, as Borga goes to a river, and is disgusted by all the pollution in America, and especially at Lex Luger for being proud of such a wasteful people. Wow, they should try this angle again today. With all the tree huggers out there these days, the heel/face dynamics would be completely reversed

Bobby Heenan finds a couple in the front row, and the guy proposes to his Asian girlfriend - while Heenan cracks jokes about him being an illegal Mexican, eats their popcorn, and forces her to hold his used tissues. She accepts, but Heenan reminds the guy that he'll be 'hungry again in an hour.' WOW

IRS v PJ Walker: Walker tries a sneak attack, but gets cut off, and launched over the top for a shot into the steps. Back in, IRS stomps him, but here's Razor Ramon (to a great crowd reaction) as Irwin bodyslams the jobber. IRS gets distracted, however, and Walker schoolboys him at 1:18. DUD, but fun, and the crowd just loved it - and Razor

Bobby Heenan catches up to Johnny Polo and The Quebecers backstage to talk about facing the Steiner's next week, but Polo informs us that they're not really deserving, so they'll defend the belts against someone else instead

BUExperience: The Steiners/Quebecers feud continues to entertain, but the rest (except for Bobby Heenan’s antics, of course) is pretty much all forgettable.

This one is notable for being last regular edition from the Manhattan Center though, as the show enters a period of extended taping cycles (where they’d film 3-4 episodes at a time), as we head towards the end of the first year
