- Why not? Let’s do SMACKDOWN! (Well, the ‘why’ was because I
attended this show. This was originally written within a day of airtime)
- For those that care (and I love ya for it :)), I lost my
job with wrestlingrants.com. I don't have any “hard” or “sore” feelings to Joe
(the webmaster, who can be reached at Joe@wrestlingrants.com) Only a bit upset,
because I was dropped without ANY real reason. Sad, huh? (I don’t even remember this)
- BTW, I use this system: ***** - Excellent, **** - Great,
*** - Good, **- Okay, * - Decent, DUD - Awful.
- Live from Rochester,
New York.
- Your Hosts are Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler.
- The Rock makes his way out to start, getting the hot crowd
PUMPED, and denies knowing about Rikishi’s running Austin down the night it happened. He calls Austin out, to talk face
to face, and Steve makes HIS way out (to another big pop), and Rock tells him
again that he had no idea at the time. Steve lets him know that he doesn’t
trust anyone, and doesn’t believe Rocky, which brings out Rikishi. Rikishi
tells Austin that Rocky DID know all about it,
and called him up before Survivor Series, asking him to run down Austin. Rock tells him
where he can stick it, and AGAIN denies Rikishi’s story. He also lets Austin know that he
doesn’t do things from behind, but only face to face, and that he’d get Kurt
Angle FACE TO FACE tonight. Guess who comes out now? Yes, WWF Champion (Oh that
feels GOOD) Kurt Angle. He tells Rocky that he reminds him of O.J., breaking
the law and getting away free. Rock (again), tells them where they can stick
it, and Austin
gives Rock a Stunner for his troubles. Oh Well. End of segment.
- Handicapped Match: Test & Albert vs. Crash Holly:
You know, after jobbing to Albert last week, and Test on RAW, why would he want
this match? Crash tries to attack with a kendo stick, but it backfires and
T&A kick his short ass. It backfires, however, as they taunt the little
guy, but get nailed with a trash can lid. The brawl quickly heads to the back,
where the heels keep killing Elroy, and try to throw him off a loading dock
(with a big XFL truck conveniently there!), but Steve Blackmen saves him, and
takes out Test allowing Crash a fluke pin at 2:33. Short … like Crash. DUD.
- The ladies of the WWF argue in Lt. Commish Debra’s office.
They all want a title shot TONIGHT! The result? A four corner’s match, here
tonight! Oh Joy!
- Steven Richards comes out to do his usual spiel, but the
Undertaker interrupts and powerbombs him. First Regal, now Richard’s. So what’s
the ‘Taker’s gimmick? A guy who attacks anyone that isn’t a hick? Pointless
waist of time.
- Adam Sandler shows up backstage, and hangs with the
Superstars. I’m down with that.
- E&C try to get a tag title shot out of Debra, but it
doesn’t work out.
- Al Snow keeps trying to bribe Lawler to be his tag partner
against Tazz & Raven. This time with smoked meats. Okay.
- WWF Women’s Title, 4 Corners Match: Lita vs. Ivory vs.
Jackie vs. Trish Stratus: Jackie attacks Lita to start, and drops an elbow
for two, and a sidewalk slam for two. Backslide gets one, and Lita hits a punch
for two. Trish tags in, and does HER main spot, the bulldog, then snap suplexes
Lita for two. Lita comes back with a flying clothesline, and a suplex of her
own, but Ivory jumps her from behind, and takes it to Trish. Ivory gutwrenches
Lita for two, as the crowd chants for puppies. Lita with a Twist of Fate for
two, and hits a flying head scissors on Jackie, and then on Trish! Everyone brawls
now, and Lita hits a big moonsault on Ivory, but the ref. is with the other
girls, allowing Edge and Christian to interfere, and Ivory pins Lita at 3:26 to
get the title. Whatever, ¾*.
- Austin’s
talking … on a CELL PHONE! Wow! I REALLY needed a shot of that!
- Rikishi vs. Chris Jericho: Chris rushes him from
mid isle, but Rikishi stops him quickly, and rams him to the steps. We go
inside, and fat boy posts Jericho,
but misses the corner charge. Chris hits a spin heel, and takes it to Rikishi
on the floor. Rikishi gets a sleeper to comeback (???), but Chris escapes, and
tries to turn it into the Walls of Jericho, but can’t! He hits a bulldog
instead, and a flying clothesline, followed by a missile dropkick, but out
comes Kane. Great. Jericho
is armed with a chair, however, but Kane no sells a shot, and hits a chokeslam,
causing a DQ in 4:10. Bad ending to a decent match, ¾*. Afterwards, Rikishi
hits the Banzai Drop on Y2J.
- Val Venis & Eddie Guerrero vs. Billy Gunn &
Chyna: Billy comes out to “Ass Man” but Val objects, saying that he can’t
use that music because he isn’t “Mr. Ass” anymore. The heels double team Gunn
to start, and Val goes to town on him, but Chyna gets tagged in and hits her
Handspring elbow on Val, and then Billy does one. They double bulldog Val, but
Eddie cheats to win, and now they double team AirBrush Girl. She plays Rickina
Morton for a bit, but hot tags Billy, who cleans house! He and Chyna hit side
suplex/neckbreaker combo, but it only gets two on Eddie. Val and Billy brawl on
the floor, so Eddie and Chyna do a reversal sequence ending with Chyna hitting
a reverse DDT for the pin at 4:27. Joy. ½*.
- Backstage Austin
is STILL on his Cell Phone. Doesn’t he know that causes Brain Tumors? Lucky for
him though, he steps out of the way JUST in time, as a big crate falls from the
ceiling. Did he not tip the guy who parked his car?
- Ad for Sandler’s new movie “Little Nicky.” Dear G-D that’s
gonna suck worse than a WCW PPV. (Saw it fairly recently. It’s okay, but
certainly not one of the Sandman’s better projects. ** ½)
- Al Snow vs. Tazz: Snow keeps trying to bribe Jerry,
this time with a customized toilet seat, but it’s one on one tonight anyway!
They wrestle around to start, and Snow gets a sit down powerbomb for two. They
bump heads off a cross corner whip, and Raven tries to get involved, but Lawler
stops him, and Snow rolls up Tazz for three at 1:22. Well, that sucked. DUD.
The ECW boys then beat on Al, but Jerry makes the save with his new toiler
seat. How nice. (‘Toiler seat?’ Where he sits and toils?)
- Chris Benoit vs. Triple H: This could be good. Big
slugfest to start, won by Benoit, but Hunter hits a back elbow off an Irish
whip. They brawl around on the mat, and it spills out, where HHH hits a drop
toe hold to the steps. He slams him on the railing, and suplexes him back in.
Flair-like knee drop by Hunter gets two, but Benoit comes back with a side
suplex. He goes to work on the arm, but Hunter tries a Pedigree, so Benoit
turns it into a slingshot, but Hunter powers out, bumping the ref. He hits a
facebuster, and tries another Pedigree, but Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn run
out! They get their asses kicked too, and The Game hits Benoit with the
Pedigree, but there’s no ref! Eddie runs in now, and clobbers Hunter with the
IC belt, getting Benoit an easy pin at 3:40. Too short, and a bad ending on top
of that. ½*. The Radicals then officially re-unite, but Hunter clears them out
with a chair. I like re-teaming of the Radicals, but the match was WAY
disappointing.
- Kurt Angle gets lost on a stairwell backstage.
- Main Event, WWF Title Match: Kurt Angle vs. The Rock:
Rock attacks Kurt Angle to start, but Kurt hits a great German suplex to stop
the effort. Slugfest won by Rock, but Angle hits a big powerslam for two. He
keeps control, pounding Miavia, and whips him to the railing. Kurt hooks a
chinlock, killing the pace, but Rock quickly fights out, and both guys get
knocked out off a double clothesline. Rock hammers the Champ, and hits a big
DDT for two, only to be belly to bellied by Angle. He doesn’t cover, however,
and takes the WWF title and just walks out, wanting to retain by count-out.
Rock stops Earl’s count, and brings Angle back for a big powerslam getting two.
Samoan drop gets two, but Kurt gets an Olympic Slam out of no where for a
dramatic two count. He charges Rock, but Miavia tosses him over the top in a GREAT
bump by Angle. Kurt’s knee is hurt, and they want to carry him out, but Rock
drags him back, and hooks a Sharpshooter. Cue Rikishi, who gets decked by the
Rock, and Angle gets a big spinebuster slam, and Rock covers but Rikishi breaks
the count, and Rock wins by DQ at 7:46. Great, another bad ending. Match was
decent, at least. * ¾. Afterwards, Rikishi and Angle double team the Rock, and
out comes Austin
to make the save! He clears the heels out, but Rock isn’t pleased and gives him
a Rock Bottom in retaliation for the Stunner to end the show!
- Bottom Line: Eh. A pretty decent show, but nothing
special at all. The Benoit/HHH match was a BIG disappointment, as was
Rock/Angle, but this show DID see the re-formation of the Radicals, so it’s not
ALL bad :) Still, pretty bland, overall. (Quite honestly, I don’t even remember this.
I have vivid memories of a lot of the shows I attended, but this one is just a
giant blank for me, and I have nothing to add)
