WWF Monday Night RAW (January 10, 1994)
Original Airdate: January 10, 1994
From Richmond, Virginia; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Randy Savage. Would it have killed them to do the anniversary show at the Manhattan Center? But, hey, at least it’s live this week.
Hot RAW Girl Sign of the Week: Rock 'N' RAW
Opening WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Quebecers v Marty Jannetty and 1-2-3 Kid: Jacques starts off with Jannetty, and Marty quickly catches him with a victory roll for two. Jacques backs off to strategize with Pierre, but ends up taking sunset flip for two. Both men tag, and Pierre uses his size advantage to toss Kid around a bit, but takes a spinheel kick for two. The champs try a double-team, but Marty runs in to hold them off, and the challengers clean house. Dust settles on Pierre and Jannetty, and Marty flapjacks Kid into a dropkick on the Quebecer! The champs decide to bail, but end up back in, and they settle on Jacques and Jannetty again. Marty wins a criss cross with a fistdrop, and superkicks Jacques for the pin - only for the referee to realize his foot was on the ropes, and quickly overturn it. Another criss cross ends in Pierre pulling down the top rope to knock Marty out of the ring, but a double-team backfires and Jannetty tags. Kid hits Jacques with a spinheel kick, and dives out onto Pierre with a somersault bodyblock before catching Jacques with a springboard bodypress. Johnny Polo runs interference to distract Kid, however, and the Quebecers cut the ring in half with their usual tandem goodness. Jacques with a piledriver, and the assisted-Cannonball hits, but they don't cover. They go for it again to really punish the Kid, but Marty runs in to stop it, and gets the tag in the ensuing chaos. He's a crack house of fire, and a vertical suplex/flying bodypress combo finishes Pierre at 18:18. Great moment afterwards, as Randy Savage bolts into the ring to present them with the belts, as the crowd goes wild. Great moment, but honestly, I wasn't feeling the match, and it wasn't as good as I remembered it. There was some nice stuff from everyone, but it took forever to get going, and it just didn't work for me as an overall match. That's not to say that it was BAD (it wasn't), just not as good as I seemed to remember it. **
RAW Anniversary Moment: 1-2-3 Kid moonsaults his way into history by pinning Razor Ramon back in May
Royal Rumble Report! Hey, it's Jim Ross! I think this might actually be his RAW debut
RAW Anniversary Moment: Jerry Lawler hosts the Kings Court with Tiny Tim in July. Really? This was a highlight?
Ludvig Borga v Brad Anderson: Anderson blocks an early backdrop with a series of clotheslines, but Borga shrugs him off, and hits one of his own. Sidewalk slam, and the Torture Rack finishes at 2:30. Man, Borga was just completely out of steam as a character after Survivor Series, and the injury about a week after this killed him off for good. DUD
On Superstars over the weekend, Yokozuna easily won a Handicap match (I loved that gimmick), but nearly shit his pants when The Undertaker appeared on the video wall to show off the nearly completed casket. And I'd imagine that would be quite a load of shit. But, the pants are huge too, so it probably balances out
RAW Anniversary Moment: Doink throws a bucket of water on Bobby Heenan back in September
The Undertaker v Ray Hudson: Hudson tries to attack, but finds himself caught in the usual slow Undertaker squash. Tombstone finishes at 2:33. DUD
Bam Bam Bigelow v Bastion Booger: Bigelow doesn't even wait for the RAW Girl to get out of the ring before attacking, but Booger's fat power is greater, and he overwhelms him with blubber. Bigelow ends up on the floor, so Luna offers Booger her vagina if he leaves Bam Bam alone. Hey, he's her 'main squeeze.' No one ever said only. It turns out to be a trap, and Bigelow rams him into the steps before taking him in for the flying headbutt at 2:31. Not exactly Hogan/Savage here. ¼*
Backstage, The Quebecers are pissed, but they have a rematch for Madison Square Garden in one week. That won't be televised, but this was a common practice to boost house show business back in this era
RAW Anniversary Moment: Kamala turns face by flipping out on his handler back in February
IRS comes down to hype his match with Randy Savage for next week, and ends up getting the anniversary cake shoved into his face
BUExperience: Well, the surprise tag title switch was the perfect kind of anniversary episode moment to highlight some of the unexpected stuff we remember from the shows first year, but other than that, this was really bottom of the barrel stuff.
