WWF Monday Night RAW (February 28, 1994)

Original Airdate: February 28, 1994 (Taped January 31)

From Bushkill, Pennsylvania; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Harvey Wippleman.

Opening WWF Title Match: Yokozuna v Randy Savage: Nice bit, as they put a whole video package together about what would happen to the title picture at WrestleMania should Savage capture the title tonight. And Savage is so eager to capture his third WWF Title that he can't even wait for the entrances to finish - attacking Yoko while he gets the robe off. Macho with a series of jabs, and he dodges an elbowdrop from the champion, then takes him down with a hangman’s clothesline for two. Yoko jabs him in the throat to take the pep out of his step, and chokes his challenger in he corner. Bodyslam, but a splash misses, and Randy knocks him out to the floor with a high knee. Flying axehandle out after him, and Randy is smart enough to remember that the title doesn't change hands via countout, and works to get the big man back in. Easier said than done, and Yoko cracks him with a forearm for his efforts. Into the steps, and Yoko rolls him in for slugfest - Savage firing off jabs. Flying axehandle wobbles the champion, and a flying bodypress gets him down for two. Schoolboy gets two, as Vince declares that 'nothing' can stop Randy Savage in his quest to become WWF Champion once again. Just call him Nothing McMahon, then, I guess. Yoko comes back with an avalanche, but misses a legdrop, so Mr. Fuji passes him the salt bucket to finish Randy off. It backfires to give Savage two, so he adds a Flying Elbowdrop, but here's Crush to break up the pin at 13:00. I just don't, and never will, get why Vince had no confidence in Savage anymore during this period. The crowd was hanging on his every move here, and he could clearly still go in the ring. I know they were on that 'new generation' kick, but this was the same year they pushed King Kong Bundy down our throats again, and put the title on Bob Backlund! Afterwards, Crush and Yoko do a beat down, but Bret Hart and Lex Luger run in to make the save. A Hart/Luger/Savage six-man against Yoko/Crush/Owen should have happened. Fuck them for not booking it. Sad note: everyone in this match (including the referee) are dead today... except Mr. Fuji, who was playing the wise, old, grandfatherly character here. *

Bam Bam Bigelow v Mike Khoury: Bigelow kills him right away with clotheslines, and drops a pair of elbows. Bodyslam, but a falling headbutt misses, and Khoury dropkicks him. Bodypress, but Bam Bam counters with a slam, and plods around for a while before finishing with an enzuigiri at 2:35. DUD

Cute RAW Girl Sign of the Week: We Be RAW

Earthquake v Black Phantom: 'Quake no-sells everything Phantom throws at him, and hits a shoulderblock, then an elbowdrop. Avalanche misses, but Phantom screws up his comeback, and takes a dropkick before 'Quake finishes him with the Earthquake sit-down splash at 1:38. DUD

WrestleMania X Report

Kwang v John Crystal: Kwang destroys him with headbutts, and hits a savate kick, as McMahon busies himself by chatting on the phone with Sy Sperling about his involvement at WrestleMania. Man, they were really lining up the A-list for this one! Meanwhile, Kwang superkicks the jobber, and we're done at a brisk 1:20. Barely a match. DUD

Stan Lane tries to get an interview with Shawn Michaels in his dressing room, but Shawn is in the nude, so he has Diesel kick him out while he gets himself together - consisting of putting the IC title belt over his towel, and throwing on a pair of shades. Sadly, this wouldn't be the most naked we'd have to see Shawn with a WWF title belt wrapped around him

Men on a Mission v Brooklyn Brawler and Steve Smyth: Vince announces that MoM will be giving a performance at the Grammy's. Yeah, I didn't even bother checking, and I can assure you that didn't happen. Brawler gets killed with double-teams early, as MoM have finally settled into their familiar tights, after some weird combos earlier. Mabel splash finishes Smyth at 3:13. DUD

BUExperience: This entire show was in the can before last weeks live show even aired, so I wasn’t expecting anything of note to happen here, and I was sadly correct.
